Life; An Adventure.
Dear wanderers,
What makes an adventure? Certainly not sitting on a couch staring at a wall, although if you’re imagining things in your brain then you are going on an adventure deep inside your head. But I’m talking about real life adventures; there’s the excitement and preparation for it, then actually going on the adventure where you have to overcome obstacles you face like a rocky climb or not enough chocolate for everyone and finally what makes an adventure is having fun and reaching the final destination.
That’s what life is, a big (and kind of short-yet-seems-long) adventure. You start life a tiny baby curious and excited at everything you see, and as you grow you begin learning new things (everything you learn is a preparation for what lays ahead). Then the adventure begins when you are old enough to understand what’s happening around you, because that’s when you start making choices that lead to fun stories to tell in the future. Like the time milk came out of your nose because you laughed too hard. Now just like any other adventure, what must you face? The evil witch, the fire-breathing dragon, the word that starts with a big O….Obstacles!
What are obstacles that you may face in life? It could be in the form of not being very good at a certain subject in school, not having friends, losing a loved one, facing racism or bullying…among other things. And this is where it’s all or nothing! This is where you need to believe in yourself really hard, trust yourself and be proud of who you are. This is also where you have to remember that you are not alone, that every person in this world is facing some difficulty and that God is always, always there, no matter what! He promises us in the Qur’an: “Verily, after hardship there is ease.”
So remember the next time you face an obstacle: it’s just part of the big adventure you are on. Stand strong, but don’t stand alone! Always keep a close relationship with your parents or guardian because they love you and will always want the best for you. No matter how annoyed you get at being told to wash the dishes or clean your room, or not being allowed to go out with your friends, at the end of the day they know what’s best for you and - in their own unique way - are trying to show you that.
To end this little chat, I want to encourage you to always dream. Dream big, because dreams are what make a brighter future. With hard work, patience and confidence all your dreams will come true, God willing, so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
I believe in you, because every person is capable of amazing things! So enjoy your big adventure and remember to have fun along the way!
With smiles and peace,
Dana Salim
